Diamond Creek defeat SE Warriors 16-8 in blustery conditions

The Diamond Creek Devils defeated the Southeast Warriors, 16-8, after a dominant performance in windy conditions last Sunday in the Women’s Division 2.

The trip south from Diamond Creek was worth it for the Devils, scoring seven runs in their first inning to the Warriors four.

The second inning was tight after great pitching from both sides, with only one run scored each.

But the third inning is where the Devils shone, scoring another seven runs to none, putting them ten runs ahead, 15-5.

Although that didn’t stop the efforts of the Warriors, adding three runs to one in the last inning to bring the final score to 16-8.

The Diamond Creek Devils team manager, Sherryn Medlicott, told us that their team is still very new but perform highly each week.

“A lot of us have only started playing in the summer and they’ve grown a lot,” she said.

“The team play well every week so it was good to be rewarded with a win.”

Youngster, Lily O’Loughlin, was chosen as player of the match for her great catches, which she has been working to improve, as well as her great hitting.

“We have been working on stopping balls going past and she really showed her improvement today,” Medlicott said.

“She also got a double, which was great, and her base running was fantastic.”

O’Loughlin told us that she was very happy with her performance, both with her catching and her batting, although when she swung – it took her mind a bit to catch up.

“It was a great feeling hitting a double,” she said.

“But my brain didn’t register that I hit the ball until I ran past the base!”

Next week Diamond Creek head home to play top-of-the-table Heathmont, while the Warriors head away to play GMBC.

Match of the Round is chosen in-advance each week and designed to provide coverage of the entire league across the season. It is produced with support from the MWBL’s communications and content partner, The Content Engine.
