Essendon produced one of their best performances of the season last Saturday, defeating CGS Blue 15-5 in the Under 17 Division 2 competition.
The emphatic win sees Essendon leap from sixth to third on the ladder, putting them firmly in finals contention with just a few rounds to play.
It was Essendon’s pitching that set the tone throughout the game. Despite both teams scoring five in the first, Essendon’s pitching kept CGS Blue quiet through the middle innings, allowing the Essendon batters to capitalize with aggressive hitting and smart base running.
Head coach Nathanial Lian praised the team’s resilience and positive mindset, crediting the turnaround to a renewed focus on belief and team spirit.
“This was a massive win for us,” Lian said.
“A few games ago, the boys were down on confidence, but we’ve been working hard on encouragement and backing each other. That’s what gets these young players to thrive.”
The game saw multiple contributors across the board, with the batters racking up runs in key moments and the defence holding strong when pressure was applied.
While Lian acknowledged there’s still room for improvement, he said the performance shows what the team is capable of when they play with energy and intent.
With momentum now on their side, Essendon will look to maintain their winning form in the final rounds as they eye a strong finals push.
