Greensborough take commanding D-res win over Sunshine White

Greensborough put on a clinic against Sunshine White, dominating the scoreboard 26-3 in the D-reserves last Saturday afternoon.

It was perfect conditions for baseball and a perfect start for the Burras, scoring seven runs to none in the first innings.

Into the second and Greensborough scored another seven runs, including an in-the-park home run, to Sunshine’s two.

The Burras continued their domination in the third inning with another seven runs added to the board to Sunshine’s one.

In the final two innings, Sunshine batted both but failed to score while Greensborough scored five to start then did not bat out the last.

Greensborough team manager, Ben Whyte, commended his team’s efforts.

“We are a team that is looking to finals and had a loss against Watsonia last week,” he said.

“So for us to put in the work for two hours and not give in was impressive and really shows that we can play finals.”

17-year-old, Phoenix Suhrou-Dimarco, was chosen as player of the match for his brilliant batting efforts at the plate.

“[Surough-Dimarco] was aggressive at each and every bat,” Whyte said.

“And with that he got an in-the-park home run, which really brought morale up in the team.”

Suhrou-Dimarco told us what was going through his mind when that home-run ball was thrown.

“When the ball was first thrown, I was going to leave it,” Suhrou-Dimarco said.

“But at the last minute I decided to hit and I was stoked with the result.”

Next week Sunshine White head home to play La Trobe and Greensborough head off to play Diamond Creek.

Match of the Round is chosen in-advance each week and designed to provide coverage of the entire league across the season. It is produced with support from the MWBL’s communications and content partner, The Content Engine.
