Heathmont defeat GMBC to claim the Under 15s Div 1 premiership!

Heathmont took the silverware, defeating GMBC 7-2 in the Under 15s Div 1 Grand Final last Saturday.

It was a defensive start from both sides with a scoreless first inning. But Heathmont got the ball rolling, scoring one run to GMBCs none in the second.

Another great defensive effort from both sides saw another scoreless inning, making it anyone’s game, while both teams scored two in the fourth, amping up the pressure even more.

But Heathmont stormed away in the last, scoring four runs to none, claiming the 2025 MWBL Under 15s Div 1 premiership.

Winning coach, Chris Nicholas, commended the boys’ efforts at staying strong despite a lot of pressure throughout the game.

“They came to play and kept their heads today,” he said.

“The boys had confidence on the pitching mound and in the batting box and it was absolutely outstanding.”

Phil ‘Sweet Chilli’ Toye was chosen as player of the match for his intensity and composure when the team needed it.

“[Toye] pitched excellently and closed out with confidence,” he said.

Toye told us he went into the game with a good mentality that gave him confidence throughout the game.

“I knew that I was going to play the best I could play,” he said.

“I had the mentality that they couldn’t hit me… but if they did, I trusted the fielders to back me up.”

Congratulations to Chris and his team on the victory and congratulations to Heathmont for claiming the premiership!
