The Melbourne Uni women’s derby saw Melb Uni White defeat their clubmates 17-12 in a drizzly contest last Sunday in the Women’s Division 1.
It was a red-hot start from both sides despite the rain, with Blue scoring seven runs to White’s six in the first.
Then White continued their streak in the second, scoring four runs to Blue’s one giving them a five-run lead, 10-5.
But Blue wasn’t giving up without a fight, scoring four runs to White’s two making the game all tied up in the last 20 minutes.
It ended in a whitewash with White scoring five runs and then turning a pivotal double play in defence, holding Blue to no runs in their last inning.
Melb Uni White nominated Vic Brown and Lauren Hagan to talk to us about their performances and team efforts during the game.
Brown applauded the team’s composure and effort while batting.
“We had control and aggression in the batter’s box,” she said.
“So we got some great hitting and a lot of runs as a result.”
Brown also mentioned she was playing with an injury.
“My elbow and shoulder were still buggered,” she said.
“The fact that I made it through four innings of pitching surprised me.”
Hagan commended the team for their batting efforts as well, despite allowing a few walks on the mound.
“Look we let a few [walks] happen which we weren’t too proud of,” she said.
“But our batting really made up for it, especially in the last when it was all tied up.”
Next week Melb Uni Blue head away to play North Balwyn while Melb Uni White stay home and play the Warriors.
Match of the Round is chosen in-advance each week and designed to provide coverage of the entire league across the season. It is produced with support from the MWBL’s communications and content partner, The Content Engine.
