North Balwyn Hold Off Late GMBC Surge in Tense 4-2 Victory

North Balwyn edged out GMBC 4-2 in a tight A-grade clash last Saturday, holding firm despite a late push from the visitors.

The home side came out firing, setting the tone early and taking a 2-0 lead after two innings.

Coach Jeremy Young praised his players for their fast start and good intent.

“We set the tone from the start and put the pressure on early,” he said.

However, GMBC refused to go quietly, plating a single run in the third inning to bring the scoreline to 2-1.

Both teams went scoreless through the next three innings, until North Balwyn added-on two in the bottom of the seventh, while GMBC could manage only one in response, resulting in a 4-2 win to the Stingers.

“When you’re still holding the lead, you don’t really lose out momentum despite the scoreboard pressure being always there, but the boys stayed composed through to the end, as the early intent gave us a solid start,” Young said.

North Balwyn pitching coach Jon Kennedy also weighed in post-match, crediting the team’s resilience and development.

Kennedy emphasised his focus on long-term growth and development, making it clear that his focus goes beyond just wins and losses.

“What matters to me is their process. If they take care of their process, then their success will follow,” he said.

Match of the Round is chosen in-advance each week and designed to provide coverage of the entire league across the season. It is produced with support from the MWBL’s communications and content partner, The Content Engine.
