It was the battle of the Saints last Saturday, but both Ringwood and Watsonia’s A3 sides were left seeking divine intervention to split them, with the tight tussle ending in a 5-5 draw.
Ringwood started strongly, leading the game early with two runs to none in the first, while the second and third returned zeroes for both sides.
But Watsonia came back with a lightning bolt, scoring four runs to one in the fourth, giving them a 4-3 lead.
No runs for either side again in the fifth inning, but the sixth is where things got interesting.
Watsonia started the dig with a run, but Ringwood managed to plate two in return, so with 20 minutes left, the game was still anyone’s for the taking.
But the brilliant pitching and fielding from both sides denied each other any further scoring opportunities, so it ended in a 5-5 draw.
The home-side Ringwood Saints coach, Trent Passlow, gave some insight to the efforts of his team through the game.
“We executed well in the first innings but didn’t capitalise on the position we had unfortunately,” he said.
“But the young kid coming in to pitch finished our game really well.”
This game was the first draw for Ringwood this season and the second for Watsonia.
Next week, Watsonia head back home to play GMBC while Ringwood get a break with the bye.
