Ringwood Saints hold off Heathmont in A4

The Ringwood Saints held off a dramatic late comeback by Heathmont to clinch a thrilling 11–10 victory last Saturday in the A4-grade.

The Saints were off to a flying start in the first two innings scoring seven runs to Heathmont’s one.

Heathmont then found their feet in the third, outscoring Ringwood five runs to four, with the momentum starting to swing their way.

The comeback continued in the fourth innings with Heathmont adding another run while keeping Ringwood scoreless to make the scoreline 11-7.

But despite pushing hard and plating another three runs, Heathmont came up a run short in the final inning, with Ringwood holding on to secure a narrow 11-10 win.

Ringwood Saints Team manager, Shaun Crebbin, commended the efforts of his team towards the start of the game.

“I thought our hitting and pitching in the first half was outstanding,” he said.

“[Heathmont] came back towards the end and made it tight but our lead really helped out in the end.”

Crebbin chose young Jensen Turner, as man of the match for his great effort pitching.

“[Turner] started well and kept them to one run in three different innings,” he said.

“He was fantastic.”

But Turner credited his teammates’ tight defence in the early innings.

“I think the field worked really hard and well,” he said.

“They did a really good job backing me up when I was pitching and backing up the reliever too.”

After the King’s Birthday break Ringwood will head back home to play GMBC, while Heathmont will take on Doncaster.

Match of the Round is chosen in-advance each week and designed to provide coverage of the entire league across the season. It is produced with support from the MWBL’s communications and content partner, The Content Engine.
