MATCH OF THE ROUND: Greensborough Reach B-Res Grand Final After Overpowering Monash

Greensborough’s B-Reserves have made it into the grand final after defeating Monash 21-6 last Saturday.

Beautiful, sunny conditions at a packed Gilbert Park were perfect for hitting, and the Burra batters were dominant throughout the game, ruthlessly piling on runs.

Winning coach Patrick Lovelock said he was impressed with how the entire team came together in the biggest game of the season so far.

“I loved how everyone pulled together and played as a team,” he said.

Lovelock was also pleased with the team’s ability to get the basics right, an important trait leading up to the biggest game of the season this Saturday.

“All the baseball stuff – we did the team things, got the hits, and backed up our pitchers,” he said.

“Particularly with the batting, everyone did what they needed to.”

Lovelock also praised the performance of pitcher Ryan Davine, whom he selected as the player of the match.

“Ryan did everything I wanted from a pitcher. He just went out there, pitched, did what he had to do, no fuss, and was happy to just keep on throwing,” he said.

Davine said the performance of Greensborough’s fielders eased the pressure on his pitching.

“The all-round defence by the rest of the players was really great, so it made my job a lot easier.”

Davine was quick to credit other players for the team’s success, particularly Mick Sullivan.

“Mick made some magnificent plays at third,” he said. “Also, being able to hit one over the fence with a bit of a sore leg, that was pretty awesome.”

Greensborough will be hoping to continue their hot form in the Grand Final this Saturday against ladder-leaders Knox.
