MATCH OF THE ROUND: Greensborough Defeat Research in a Strong Showing in the Women’s D1

In front of a large crowd at La Trobe University, with the spring-like sun beaming down, Greensborough had a big 26-2 win over Research in the women’s comp.

Batting was the order of the day, with Greensborough players consistently reaching base in ideal conditions.

Now unbeaten five games in a row, Greensborough is perfectly primed for a run at the finals this weekend.

Winning coach Cohen Breckenridge highlighted how the team came together for a complete performance.

“It was great to see the team come together,” he said. “I felt we hit well, fielded well, and our pitchers played really well.”

Breckenridge pointed out the performance of their batters was the decisive factor.

“We had a string of three hits in a row that were really crucial. I think the overall offensive play was the most pleasing part,” he said.

While Breckenridge was particularly impressed by Jazz Bentley’s batting, he selected Emma Sullivan as this week’s Player of the Round.

He noted that Sullivan’s pitching was crucial in limiting Research to just two runs.

As Player of the Round, Sullivan expressed her satisfaction that everyone on the team had a chance to hit.

“It was a team game; it wasn’t just about individual performances. We worked together as a team,” she said.

Sullivan also praised her teammates’ performances.

“Lillia was great behind the plate. She always keeps everything in front of her and never complains,” she said.

“She always works with the pitcher and supports them if they’re feeling down.”

Finals kick off in the women’s D1 competition this weekend, with St Kilda taking on UMBC-White and Greensborough facing the North Balwyn Stingers.
