MATCH OF THE ROUND: Melbourne Uni Blue Takes a Decisive Victory Over Greensborough in the Women’s

Last Sunday afternoon, Melbourne Uni Blue (UMBC) faced off against Greensborough at Ross Straw Field in the women’s competition.

In a convincing victory, UMBC won the contest 21-6 in a high scoring affair.

The win leaves UMBC in third place on the ladder, with Greensborough holding firm in fifth.

UMBC manager Jade Devlin said the most pleasing part of Sunday’s victory was the team’s mental approach.

“The big focus is just having a really great attitude, no matter how well we’re playing,” said Devlin.

“Sometimes in games things don’t quite go your way and I felt we always kept our heads up and remained engaged in everything that was happening.”

UMBC player/coach Jade Yuen said she was pleased the team’s training was paying off on game day.

“We are seeing a lot of our training translate on the ground to a lot more heads-up baseball,” said Yuen.

“We’re seeing a lot of people being able to turn plays much more out of habit, which is really great to see.”

Devlin said the key play of the game was a double-play by Lexie Huang, who tagged the runner and then flipped over to first for the second out.

“We also had an excellent double play by our third baseman, Shannon Kwok, who got the lead runner at three and then threw the ball blindly over to one and got the out there,” said Devlin.

Jade Yuen also made particular mention of the UMBC batting performance.

“We had some great hits, but one that was really great was Megan Kelly, absolutely hitting one straight into centre field, resulting in a triple,” said Yuen.

“Really great job.”

This Sunday, Greensborough will have a chance to bounce back against the Warriors, while UMBC have the bye.
