GMBC delivered a strong performance on the weekend, defeating Ringwood 7-3 in a spirited contest at Proclamation Park in the U17s B junior division.
From the outset, GMBC signaled their intent. Their batters came out swinging and connecting clean, driving early runs onto the scoreboard and giving the side the confidence boost that would carry through the game.
Ringwood’s pitchers struggled to find rhythm early on with the away side taking full advantage.
As the game progressed, GMBC’s pitching rotation proved effective, with consistent strikeouts and controlled delivery that kept Ringwood’s offense at bay.
The two-hour game showcased GMBC’S composure and execution. Ringwood struggled to contain their offensive pressure, while GMBC’S pitching and fielding remained composed throughout limiting Ringwood’s scoring opportunities.
By the middle innings, GMBC had built a comfortable lead with some smart tactics and disciplined defence. Ringwood attempted to fight back, narrowing the margin slightly towards the end, but Ringwood never relinquished control.
Despite the solid victory, GMBC’S coach Matthew Kent was quick to point out that there is still room for improvement.
‘’We started well with the bat, scoring 3 runs in the first innings. We were aggressive in the box, and we put pressure on the opposition’ he said.
‘’But our baserunning needs work, it is a crucial moment in the game, as we had opportunities in good positions to do that, but the opposition stopped us, which can cost us.’’
The honest assessment reflects GMBC’S mindset signaling they focused not just on winning but also improving the all-round performance. The team’s ability to self-critique even after a four-run win speaks to their ambition for the rest of the season.
Ringwood for their part, showed glimpses of potential on their home deck, but were undone by inconsistency.
