UMBC Blue has secured its place in the Grand Final after defeating the North Balwyn Stingers 8–5 in an entertaining second week of Women’s Div 1 finals action.
Both teams brought plenty of energy from the opening inning, with runners finding their way on base and the two defences immediately being put to work.
As the game progressed, the intensity at the plate increased. North Balwyn continued to put the ball in play and create scoring opportunities, while UMBC Blue responded with some important defensive plays to keep the Stingers under pressure.
By the fourth inning, both sides were producing strong work in the field, with UMBC Blue making several key catches to shut down potential scoring opportunities. North Balwyn refused to go away, ensuring the contest remained alive as the game moved towards its conclusion.
With a Grand Final berth on the line, the energy around the ground lifted again in the final innings as both teams battled through to the last out.
Ultimately, UMBC Blue did enough at the plate and in the field to secure an 8–5 victory, setting the stage for a Derby Grand Final against clubmates UMBC White.
