The Forest Hill Eagles got their first win of the season, defeating the Doncaster Dragons 3-2 last Saturday in A-Grade.
In this low scoring affair, the first run wasn’t scored until the third inning with Forest Hill scoring one run to none.
Then it wasn’t until the fifth inning that Forest Hill scored another two, making the total score 0-3.
The end is where the game heated up, with the Dragons scoring two during the eighth and final innings.
But the pitching and fielding efforts from the Eagles stopped Doncaster from scoring their final run to draw the game, ending it at 3-2.
Not only was it the first win for the Eagles but the first win under their new team manager, Daniel Reeman.
He was very proud of his team for holding strong for the whole game.
“We’ve been battling for a while to score runs and manufacture them early,” he said.
“So to keep that lead was awesome with some great defence behind our pitching and fielding.”
Reeman chose Damon Hill as his player of the round for his pitching efforts, which kept Doncaster scoreless for most of the game.
Hill said that the defensive work from his teammates really helped his mindset when pitching.
“Pitching today I felt comfortable that anything hit by the bat was going to be fielded quite easily,” he said.
Reeman also talked about how this win will hopefully help his team build for the rest of the season.
“Our next games are big so this win really meant a lot to us,” he said.
“This win sort of broke a curse for us and hopefully this momentum will go into our next games,” he said.
Next week, Doncaster head home to play Waverly while Forest Hill head to the city to play the University of Melbourne.
Match of the Round is chosen in-advance each week and designed to provide coverage of the entire league across the season. It is produced with support from the MWBL’s communications and content partner, The Content Engine.
