GMBC are heading to the grand final after a 9-0 win over Ringwood last Saturday morning in the Under 17s Division 1.
It was a great start from GMBC, putting two runs across the plate and keeping Ringwood scoreless in the first.
But a good reply from Ringwood saw them keep GMBC scoreless in the second.
The third saw GMBC get another two runs on the board with Ringwood still trying to open their account.
Then the final two innings saw GMBC break away, plating five runs and bringing the final score to 9-0.
GMBC’s coach, Mattew Kent, spoke highly of his team’s efforts in the field.
“We only gave them a few free bases,” he said.
“But then when that happened our defence shut it down, keeping them to no runs which was great.”
Brody Stokes was chosen by Kent as player of the match for giving the team momentum when they needed it.
“[Stokes] really set the tone for the team with his aggression on the field,” Kent said.
“With the bat [Stokes] put two runs on the board at the end to make the game out of reach [for Ringwood].”
But Stokes commended the efforts of teammate, Ethan Kent, for his efforts on the mound.
“Ethan had four innings of a no-hitter and held them to zero which helped us a lot,” Stokes said.
Next week is the grand final for this division and will feature North Balwyn, who fell short last year and will be back for redemption, and GMBC, who were eliminated in the qualifying last winter and are aiming for the big prize.
Match of the Round is chosen in-advance each week and designed to provide coverage of the entire league across the season. It is produced with support from the MWBL’s communications and content partner, The Content Engine.
