Melbourne University White claim premiership over North Balwyn in Women’s Div-1

Melbourne Uni White secured the premiership with a 6-3 win over the North Balwyn Stingers in the Women’s Div-1 Grand Final last Sunday.

It was the perfect conditions for baseball and a perfect start for Melbourne Uni scoring three runs to none in the opening inning.

But a great defensive second innings saw no runs scored by either team.

Then the Stingers put on one run to none in the third, gearing up for a comeback.

And comeback they did, scoring two runs at the top of the fourth, tying everything up 3-3.

But Melbourne Uni wasn’t giving up without a fight, plating two runs to finish the fourth inning 5-3, keeping the premiership in their grasp.

Another great defensive effort from both sides saw the fifth inning go scoreless, with Melbourne Uni maintaining the lead.

Then Melbourne Uni put the icing on the cake, scoring one to none in the last inning, securing them the 2025 Women’s Division 1 Premiership.

Melbourne Uni’s team manager, Abbey Kelly, said how proud she was of her team.

“The team have been playing better and better all season and it really showed today,” she said.

Vic Brown, Melbourne Uni’s first pitcher, put on an amazing pitching display despite suffering through injury.

Brown told us what was going through her head while on the mound.

“I was just trying to focus on doing the job for the girls,” Brown said.

“Throwing strikes and making it difficult for the other team to guess is what I wanted to do.”

Congratulations to Melbourne University White on their season and their premiership.

Congratulations and commiserations to North Balwyn for their fantastic season as well.
