There was no shortage of excitement in the Monash derby two Sundays ago, with Monash University Blue claiming a dramatic 14–13 walk-off victory over Monash University White.
With club pride on the line, the two sides traded blows throughout the afternoon in a high-scoring contest that remained evenly poised from the opening inning. Every time one team edged ahead, the other found a response, producing an entertaining display of offence and determination.
Monash University White applied pressure all game through strong pitching and timely hitting, putting themselves in a position to claim an important interclub victory.
But with the game on the line in the final inning, Monash University Blue produced one last charge. Needing two runs in their final at bat, they found a way to get runners on base before bringing them home to complete a thrilling walk-off win.
While Blue celebrated the 14–13 result, both teams can take plenty from a fiercely contested derby that showcased the depth of talent and competitive spirit within the Monash University Baseball Club.
It was a fitting reminder that when clubmates become rivals, anything can happen!
